Underfloor Heating
What is Underfloor heating, how does it work and where can it be used!
We're asked, can I install it with !!!!! and what is the suitability of !!!!! for underfloor heating.
It can be used virtually anywhere there is a floor...literally, 'by a qualified installer'. In particular the electric floor heating type where it is easily adapted to your existing floors.
We're finding that more and more people are installing this option in Garage conversions and Loft conversions as well as every other room in the home.
There's no need to dig anything up or alter your home in any way. It's normally fitted in 1-2 days and is ready to walk on as soon as the flooring is laid.
NO WAITING TIME...and the result is warm feet...always.
It's like having a floor size radiator at a fraction of the cost. Which makes the idea of NOT having a radiator on the wall appealing for both arranging furniture AND be able to use every wall!
Systems can be used.....
Under
Ceramic tile flooring
Slate flooring
Stone flooring
Wood flooring
Laminate flooring
Carpets
Vinyl
In screed
In concrete
Other uses are;
Animal care in kennels and veterinary care / Stables / Workshops / Nurseries / Plant care and greenhouses / Outbuildings and garden rooms / Loft conversions / Garage conversions / Conservatories / Elderly care / Infant care...the possibilities are endless.
There are probably a lot more uses particularly 'outside'.
Here are the main types of underfloor heating and their uses
In screed cable heating
A 6mm twin conductor cable to be laid in concrete or screed and in particular below thick stone flooring.
Under tile cable
A 3mm twin core heating cable on a drum or sewn onto a rectangular mat for heating under tile, slate or stone.
Carbon mat heating
A 0.3mm carbon heating film used under wood or laminate which can also be laid between joists.
Depron insulation (6mm)
Used in conjunction with carbon mats to provide maximum heat retention to laminate or wood.
Marmox insulation boards
Used with under tile heating to provide maximum heat retention to tile, slate or stone. In sizes from 6mm-50mm depending on your requirements.
Why insulate?
Here are some guides to warm up times.
With tile backer board.....15 to 30 minutes
On timber floors.............30 to 60 minutes
Insulated concrete.........120 to 180 minutes
Un-insulated concrete.....120 to 300 minutes
It makes sense to have insulation fitted!
We can fit this at the time of installation.

We supply all of the above with a fully programmable thermostat which works independently of your existing heating system.
An example of this would be that you could leave your central heating system OFF but just leave the underfloor heating system ON in your conservatory or bathroom!
The application for carpet and vinyl installations will depend on existing floor finish and new flooring to be fitted.
The extent of uses for underfloor heating has not been fully explored, but these heating systems have various applications both inside and outside the home.
If you are considering underfloor heating for your home please send us your details and we will endeavour to answer your questions.
One important thing to remember is that you don't have to alter your existing heating or plumbing in any way and the cost of running a system when installed correctly, should prove more cost efficient and comfortable than waiting for radiators to send warm air rolling around your room.
This type of efficient heating has now brought comfort to all types of flooring where the possibilities until recently were very limited, now they appear to be limit...less.
The comfort level is hard to explain but was brought home to me by clients living in a remote farmhouse, who gave me the 'opportunity' of "sort out this cold floor or the place is going up for sale".
Not one to be put off by a mere challenge(:-( )I decided that now was the time to introduce this new system called 'underfloor heating'.
You see until then we hadn't thought of using it because 'it was new'.
Why do we always think like that?
To cut a long story short the problem was solved, I was able to supply and fit a system with laminate flooring, the customer was over the moon and I left the job with my fee, a dozen eggs AND a bottle of wine!!!
My initial interest was 'fuelled' not so much by the work being completed as it was, but more the response from a totally happy customer who'd decided that they would even sell their home if we couldn't achieve what seemed 'unachievable'.
Since those early days we've gone on to fit systems under tiles, stone, laminate, wood, slate...etc.
When we return to take photos we're ALWAYS welcome and the family, pets included are all sat on the floor 'enjoying the warmth and comfort'.
Ideal for;
Bathroom flooring, conservatories, dog kennels, garage conversions, loft conversions plus I'm sure many more applications.
Here are a selection of floors WITH underfloor heating installed.

Mike says
"We've always had the objection to having tiles in areas of high use because 'it's too cold' until underfloor heating came on the scene...what a breakthrough, radiant heating at an affordable cost.
Since the electric type was shown to us we started to promote and at least quote for every job with the possibility of underfloor heating being used. Our success with this 'new' addition has meant we've secured work where we might have initially lost out to 'carpet or something warm'.
I remember the first installation we did in a bl**dy cold farmhouse where the alternatives were 'solve the cold problem or we're moving'.
Needless to say...nobody moved, we left the customers with smiles on their faces and I personally went away with a bottle of wine and a dozen eggs as well as our fee!!!.
It's so cost effective and simple to run, it should be in every home, we've fitted it in our new extension, I'll ask my children if I can take it away from their new bedroom floors!!!!! "
If it helps in any way to decide where you go next please take a look at the customer comments and see what they've had to say about the quality of work.
