Tiling Estimate FREE for domestic installations

A tiling estimate is easy to work out and this how I do it when I go to see any job.

All you need is a tape measure, pen & paper and a calculator.

Firstly we'll measure wall tiling.

  • Measure the height of the room.
  • Measure the length of the room.
  • Measure the width of the room.

If the room is an odd shape and it's difficult to measure length and width just measure every vertical wall and add them together, then multiply this figure by the height.

So you could have for example 8 Metres in length and a height of 2.4 Metres.

8 x 2.4=19.2 finished? Not yet.

You now have to take out any areas that won't be tiled such as where the bath is, the window and the door.
Deduct these and see what you're left with.

Let's say it's 15.4 Metres and as a rule of thumb you'd add 10% for cutting and waste which makes 15.4 + 10%(1.54)=16.94.

We'll call this 17 Metres and this would be your tile estimate.

If you allow 5 Metres of tiles to every 10 litres of adhesive and half a kilo of grout per Metre (for 17 metres) you'll need at least 4 x 10 litre tubs of adhesive and 8.5 kilos of grout.

To re-cap we need
4 x 10 litres of adhesive
8.5 kilos of grout
17 Metres of tiles

If borders are needed, measure all around the room excluding windows & doors and add 10%, this will give you a total of borders needed.

Now let's look at floor tiling.

A floor tiling estimate is a little easier to calculate because all you need is length x width.

So for example the length could be 3.6 Metres and width perhaps 2.4 Metres.

3.6 x 2.4 = 8.64 Metres add 10% as above = 9.5 Metres

If you allow 4 Metres of tiles to every 20 kilos of floor adhesive and half a kilo of grout per Metre (for 9.5 metres) you'll need at least 3 x 20 kilos of adhesive and 5 kilos of grout.

To re-cap we need
3 x 20 kilos of adhesive
5 kilos of grout
9.5-10 Metres of tiles
