Before you buy stone, we measure the rooms and work out the quantity you'll need including all adhesives, grout and sealants that are needed and provide you with a written quotation for everything.

If there are walls to be tiled we'll also advise on the suitability of using stone or whether contrasting tiles are more suitable, discussing the many possibilities for bathrooms, showers, kitchens and wetrooms etc.

Natural stone installations

Natural stone is a great option and is usually a longer term option than tiles, hence the cost will be more than tiles.

If you think of any installation from the top down, the first consideration is the wear layer or the finished surface you walk on. You'll want to keep this in the best condition possible and sealing with the appropriate solutions are as important as laying and grouting.

By sealing correctly the everyday cleaning is made far easier and the finish will remain in pristine condition for far longer. This is the same whether you have travertine, slate, marble or any other type of stone, the result should always be the same.

Usually completed in two stages, the first being the penetrating seal followed by the finish that you want to see such as satin, gloss or matt.

Previous to this stage would be grouting and long gone is the choice of basic grey and there is now an array of shades to contrast with your chosen stone. The joints will be anything from 1mm or more and sometimes aggregates are added to give a weathered or aged look depending on the setting.

The laying of the stone flooring is the most apparent for most and the adhesive will be chosen depending on the substrate OR whether there is electric or water based undefloor heating.

There are different options for adhesives and very often white adhesive is used where appropriate to prevent 'bleeding' of a darker adhesive being seen on lighter stone.
