How do I measure stairs to calculate for tiles?

Hullo Mike, please help me calculate how many sq metres of tile I need. My stairs are 93 cm wide (from wall to wall), my tread is 24cm deep, and my riser is 16 cm high. I have 17 stairs.
I want to use 600x600 tiles.

Hi Lynn

It's often difficult to measure in metres the number of tiles for stairs, however, looking at your tile size 600x600 I would suggest the following;

If you imagine a central joint running centrally from top to bottom to give you 2 tiles at 46+cm wide x 16cm and 24 cm, 2 for the riser and 2 for the tread. 4 pieces all cut from 2 tiles.

Just to clarify:-
Take a tile and cut it at 24cm and then cut 1 at 16cm off the piece that's left. Do this twice and you have 4 pieces, 2 for the riser and 2 for the tread.
You then have to cut all 4 pieces at 46cm long so that they total the width of your step.

A little waste is left but not too much.

Multiplied by 17 (number of steps) gives a total of 34 tiles. You can allow +10% for accidents and waste.
