Cleaning stone
Cleaning stone effectively simply means using the correct solution for the type of stone you have.
This is not as complicated as it might seem, particularly if you're using 'neutral cleaners' that don't affect the surface that needs to be cleaned.
How do you know if it's a neutral stone cleaning solution?
To give an insight to what you should be looking for use this scale as a guide: 1- 14 is a scale of ph values .
The closer you are to 1, the more acidic a product is and the closer you are to 14, the more alkaline a product will be. if you find a neutral cleaner at 7 generally this is safe to use but caution must be taken to ensure it's right for the stone you're cleaning.
Both strong acids AND strong alkaline can damage some stones but by reading labels at least you'll have an idea of the ph value, taking preventative measures not to use something that could potentially ruin your stone floors or walls.
Neutral stone cleaners are your safest option, however, read labels and phone the technical numbers on labelling as these are the experts for the products you might use possibly not the staff where it is stocked.
The technical knowledge of 'the experts' 99.9% of the time, far exceeds that of somebody selling 100 or more products for cleaning stone, from varying suppliers.

Sealing stone
Once you have satisfactorily completed your stone cleaning AND allowed it to completely dry, you can then proceed to seal it, maintaining the nice new finish.
Depending on the type of finish you want, you can seal your stone with one of a number of sealants that will produce no visible change, a deeper shade, a sheen or even a polished effect.
This doesn't always happen with one solution but can take separate coatings to achieve the result you're after.
Alternatively, washing with an enhancer will create a longer lasting finish and can be added to at any time . All of the finishing and additional products will have to be compatible to produce a lasting effect.
There are many, many makes available on the market which are confusing to most enthusiasts cleaning stone, but the simplest solutions are always the best even for us professionals.
